The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors published a guidance note on daylight and sunlight for use by its members. This follows an RICS guidance note on separate ‘legal rights of light’ which was published in 2010.
The guidance note focuses on the daylight, sunlight and shading encountered in the design, planning and environmental impact assessment of developments.
The following topics are covered:
- Establishing the brief
- Client’s instructions
- Method of assessment
- Analysis and reporting
- Environmental impact assessments
- Advisory roles
- Appendices, which include a suggested checklist of documents relevant to a daylight/sunlight assessment.
