Upward Extensions – Planning Changes

With space within cities being at a premium, owners of blocks of flats will be able to extend their premises upwards by 2 storeys under the new permitted development planning rules from the 1 August 2020. 

Whilst this is positive news for some building owners and developers, the impact to the light enjoyed by the neighbouring buildings should be considered, as they may have acquired a right of light under the Prescription Act 1832.
